Waterproof membrane where the slab calls for it, including flood affected floors. Refinishing on coatings that have gone dull or chalky.
What's involved
This covers two different jobs. The first is a waterproof membrane, laid under the flake system when the slab needs it: floors that have been flooded, slabs without a membrane underneath, and downstairs rooms where moisture comes up through the concrete.
The second is refinishing. A coating that's still sound but has gone dull, scratched or chalky can often be brought back with a fresh topcoat rather than starting again. Hagan will tell you which one your floor needs once he's seen it.

Assess
Check moisture in the slab and the condition of any coating that's already down.

Time it right
On flood affected floors, wait until the slab has properly dried out.

Prep
Grind back to sound concrete, or prepare a sound existing coating for a new topcoat.

Membrane or topcoat
Waterproof membrane laid where it's needed, or a fresh topcoat for a refinish.

Finish
Flake system and topcoat over the membrane, sealed and ready.

HR Epoxy did an amazing job transforming our flood-damaged downstairs into a lovely, clean living space.
The job itself was a bit tricky, as there was no waterproof membrane, and a lot of damage to the slab itself. HR Epoxy were super accommodating, and made sure ensure their work was timed to fit with the slab being dried, so there was no risk of it becoming moist between trades.
It was a big job. The slab was very discoloured and needed a lot of grinding back. They needed to apply a waterproof membrane to prevent a recurrence of the previous issues. There were lots of intricate areas under the stairwell and around existing fittings that needed time and patience...
The attention to detail is awesome! Tight areas have been finished properly, the flakes have been spread evenly, and the progression from room to room is seamless.
HR Epoxy were awesome to deal with, really professional, put in long days to get the job done, and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend!! The pictures speak for themselves...

01Why has my old floor coating gone chalky?
Usually because the topcoat has broken down in the sun. Coatings that aren't UV stable go chalky and dull when they get regular sun.
If the coating underneath is still well stuck down, a refinish with a UV stable topcoat can often bring it back.
02When does a floor need a waterproof membrane?
When moisture is coming up through the slab, or is likely to. That usually means flood affected floors, slabs laid without a membrane underneath, and low-lying downstairs rooms.
A moisture check before the job decides it, rather than a guess.
03Can a refinish change the colour of my floor?
Not really. A refinish is a fresh clear topcoat over what's already there, so the look stays the same, just cleaner and brighter.
A new colour means a new system over a properly prepared floor.
