What's involved
There are two ways to finish a floor with resin. A flake floor has coloured flakes broadcast into the base coat, which gives it a speckled, stone-like look and hides everyday wear well. A straight resin floor leaves the flake out for a smooth, even colour.
Flake is what most garages, downstairs rooms, salons and studios end up with, because the pattern forgives dust, scuffs and chair wheels. Either way the job starts the same, with the slab ground back and repaired, and ends with a clear topcoat over the top.

Pick the blend
Look at flake samples and sizes in the actual room, in the light it gets.

Prep the slab
Diamond grind, repairs and a moisture check so the system has a sound base.

Lay the system
Base coat down, then flake broadcast through it, or resin laid straight.

Flatten it off
Flake floors are scraped and ground back flat so there are no loose edges.

Seal
A clear topcoat locks it in and gives the floor its final finish.

HR Epoxy did an amazing job transforming our flood-damaged downstairs into a lovely, clean living space.
The job itself was a bit tricky, as there was no waterproof membrane, and a lot of damage to the slab itself. HR Epoxy were super accommodating, and made sure ensure their work was timed to fit with the slab being dried, so there was no risk of it becoming moist between trades.
It was a big job. The slab was very discoloured and needed a lot of grinding back. They needed to apply a waterproof membrane to prevent a recurrence of the previous issues. There were lots of intricate areas under the stairwell and around existing fittings that needed time and patience...
The attention to detail is awesome! Tight areas have been finished properly, the flakes have been spread evenly, and the progression from room to room is seamless.
HR Epoxy were awesome to deal with, really professional, put in long days to get the job done, and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend!! The pictures speak for themselves...

01What's the difference between a flake floor and a solid resin floor?
A flake floor has coloured flakes broadcast through it and a speckled finish. A solid resin floor has no flake and one smooth, even colour.
Flake hides dust, scuffs and marks better, which is why most homes and busy commercial floors go that way. Solid resin suits spaces where you want a plain, uniform look.
02How do I choose a flake blend?
Choose it in person, in the room it's going in. Blends look different under garage lights, in a sunny downstairs room and in a shop.
For a feel of the range, the floors in Recent Work on the homepage include grey and white in a hair salon, beige and black in a downstairs room, and cream and white in a pilates studio.
03Does flake size matter?
Yes. Smaller flakes read finer and more even from a distance, while larger flakes give a bolder, busier pattern.
Size and colour work together, so look at them side by side before deciding rather than picking each on its own.
